The instruction language

In Swedish-language schools all instruction is given in Swedish and the teachers ordinarily have Swedish as their native language. The other official language is taught as a compulsory subject in schools both with Finnish and Swedish as the instruction language. In Swedish-language schools the pupils learn Finnish from grade 3 at the latest, whereas Swedish is normally taught in Finnish-language schools from grade 7, although this may vary from one location to another. Other languages, such as English, German, French or Russian, are also taught in both Swedish- and Finnish-language schools.
